Location: San Antonio, TX | Virtual Medical Center

USGP is seeking a Referral Clerk to provide essential administrative and coordination services to support our military service members, veterans, and their families at the Virtual Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.

Position Details:

  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
  • Pay: $24.00/hour + Health and Welfare stipend
  • Employment Type: Full-time
Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of recent referral coordination or administrative healthcare experience
  • Typing Speed: At least 50 words per minute
Key Responsibilities:

The Referral Clerk will perform a range of duties aligned with industry standards and Military Health System (MHS) protocols. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Referral Coordination & Tracking:
  • Review, process, and monitor Virtual Healthcare, urgent/ASAP, and VA-DoD sharing referrals
  • Verify patient eligibility using CHCS and DEERS
  • Maintain thorough documentation of referral statuses and activities in relevant databases
  • Serve as liaison between providers, patients, and external facilities to arrange services and secure necessary authorizations
  • Administrative & Technical Support:
  • Ensure referrals are administratively complete and within the scope of covered benefits
  • Assist physicians with documentation and preparation of referral forms
  • Utilize and integrate data from CHCS, AHLTA, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Maintain both electronic and paper records for tracking and reporting
  • Customer Communication & Problem Solving:
  • Contact patients regarding referral issues or delays and provide alternative care options as needed
  • Provide information on covered services, exclusions, and coordination with other healthcare benefits
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Collaboration & Reporting:
  • Attend meetings, staff conferences, and special events as required
  • Provide trend reports, identify gaps in specialty care access, and assist in preparing statistical summaries for leadership
