Orthopedic Technician
Location: MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, FL

Position Overview:
USGP is actively seeking a qualified Orthopedic Technician to support the Orthopedics Department at MacDill Air Force Base. This is a full-time position providing direct care and support to active duty service members, veterans, and their families in a dynamic, team-based environment.

Position Highlights:

  • Pay: $23.69/hr + Health & Welfare stipend
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Qualifications:

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Additional training or education related to orthopedic care preferred
Experience:
  • At least 1 year of orthopedic technician experience within the last 2 years in a hospital or accredited healthcare facility
  • Familiarity with orthopedic trauma, pediatrics, hand/foot & ankle, spine, and sports medicine procedures
Certifications:
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
Registration:
  • Must hold a valid national certification from one of the following:
  • American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP)
  • National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT)
Immunization Requirements  (Must be current or able to obtain):
  • Hepatitis B (series and titer)
  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella (Chickenpox)
  • TB (Tuberculosis) test
  • Seasonal Influenza (flu) vaccine
  • COVID-19 vaccine (if applicable)
Key Responsibilities May Include:
  • Assist physicians with orthopedic patient care, including brace fittings, cast and splint applications/removals, and suture removal
  • Support procedures such as wound care, aspirations, and fracture reductions
  • Educate patients on cast care, traction, and orthopedic device use
  • Maintain cleanliness and supply levels in casting and patient care areas
  • Coordinate ordering of specialized supplies, medications, and equipment
  • Provide occasional front desk support (not to exceed 10% of clinical time)
  • Perform administrative duties such as:
  • Updating patient profiles in the EMR
  • Composing patient notes, doctor's letters, and DME referrals
  • Assisting with provider scheduling adjustments
  • Handle surgical scheduling tasks, including:
  • Completing pre-op documentation and surgical packets
  • Coordinating pre-op and imaging appointments
  • Processing surgical cancellations and other related duties
